Spotted Turquoise Bowl, Stoneware
"Thank you for visiting my shop! Please let me know if you have any questions, I'd love to hear from you. Every individual piece is unique. I make my work on a potter's wheel, therefore, each piece begins it's journey as a chunk of clay and is then transformed into the desired shape. Then, the piece is trimmed, bisque fired in a kiln, glazed, and fired again. All pieces are food safe, microwaveable, and dishwasher safe (Although it's always best to wash by hand!). All pieces are fired at Cone 10 for maximum durability and vitality, they will last for years and years to come! I am an artist living in Minneapolis, MN. I enjoy everything creative! I am a painter, photographer, graphic designer, knitter, (soon-to-be sewer!), and of course, a potter! I hate sitting still. I get bored pretty fast when I'm not working with my hands, creating things, or dreaming up new ideas. I enjoy pottery because of it's calming affect, I love sitting at the potter's wheel and watching the clay transform into something new. Pottery is so cool because you start the process with a block of clay and finish with a beautiful and functional piece of art. I especially love decorating and glazing my pieces. It's always fun experimenting with different glazes and slips (liquid clay applied like paint) because you never really know how it's going to come out of the kiln! Every time I get a new batch of pieces done, it's like opening presents at Christmas. I'm always excited to see what unfolds. I'm also a wedding photographer. If you're getting married and need a photographer, check out my website at www.CameraLovePhotography.com."

Large ceramic blue peacock plate, spring garden dinnerware
"Hi, my name is Catherine Reece. All of my work is hand drawn by me featuring whimsical designs and bright colors. I do all my work out of my home studio with my husband Scott while our two small children, Jackson and Kennedy play with clay too. It's a family affair.
become a fan! http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/pages/Village-Clayworks/169110533131789
I am truely grateful for the gifts that God has given me to help provide for my family. For my wonderful husband who is my greatest fan and true love and for my children who are my inspiration.
I grew up in Sierra Madre, Ca. in the foothills of the San Gabriel mountains. I've had my hands in clay for the last 14 years. I've tried other mediums in art such as water color, drawing, intaglio etching, photography and wood block printing. I find that I can combine most all of these art processes when creating a piece in ceramics. I like to look at each piece and use it as a blank canvas to draw on.
Many years ago I first saw a dragonfly on a lake in Cable, Wisconsin and was fascinated with its flight and vivid colors. I began to draw other insects, the "dung" scarab beetle, and praying mantis. God created each beautiful and intricate insect and I feel compelled to draw them and tell their stories.
People say to me - you must have a great sense of humor! And I tell them - it's just the facts. It's just the facts! And yes, I know these stories are quite silly. And some may say - well, that was more than I really needed to know! and I just smile...
Although not every aspect of my pieces are made by me I strive to make my process of creation as "green" as possible. I fire all of my work in an electric kiln that is supplemented by solar panels on our roof. In addition we travel to the various art shows we do in our diesel truck that runs on recycled vegetable oil..."

Ceramic Stoneware Dish with Black and White Cosmos Dots
"I'm an artist, writer, filmmaker and educational technologist who is also a citizen of the world. I like color, science, art, math, music, architecture, nature, design, patterns .... They all make frequent appearances in my work. I've studied drawing, painting and ceramics for years, including as an apprentice to Kahlil Gibran (master artisan and cousin of the writer), as an archaelogical artist at a major museum, and with Boston potter, Darrell Finnegan. I love to keep learning, experimenting and reflecting.
I make wheel-thrown/hand-built stoneware pieces in my MIT studio. My work has been exhibited and sold in the US and Israel. I also design and make limited-edition wearable art jewelry using European vintage beads of the 1950s-1970s. Soon, I may offer some of my VERY BRIGHTLY COLORED acrylic paintings and fine art photography"

Marci G

red poppy lunch set with lime green lace plate
"I have been around handmade crafts my entire life. I practically grew up in my mother’s studio. When I was a baby my playpen was there in her studio. I am now 17, and my mom supervises my Etsy store, but I have my own ideas about what I want to make.I hand build my pieces from paper patterns and stamps I've made or borrowed from mom. I've just started stamping the words. I keep a list of interesting words and add more every day. The poppies are my personal favorite right now. I've been pressing leaves into clay since I was 8, so this is pretty easy, and I know what leaves will make good impressions in clay. I came up with the idea of using coils with the leaves, and like those bowls a lot, too.My mom has been making pottery for over 30 years, and she is my mentor. Whenever I am working on a new design, she helps me to make it more functional. She suggests ideas like making poppy bowls in various sizes. Mom also checks everything that comes out of the kiln and decides if something is first quality, so my work has the same quality standards as a professional."
