"My parents didn't have a money tree. I learned to make what I wanted with my own hands - toy trucks from scrapwood, knives from old broken pieces, little pots from clay I found along a creek bank. That was fun. It generated a love of craft and the old ways, the real ways of making things with a personal touch. As an adult, I couldn't get away from my fascination with clay. It caught up with me. I studied long and hard, trained under old masters and picked their brains. My adult daughters and son couldn't keep their hands out of it either, and followed in my footsteps... my handprints. Getting into the rhythm of creating, we often lose all sense of time in the joy of it. I like to compare the creating of a pot to a song. The perfection of each step from kneading, forming, drying, bisque firing, glazing, and the final glaze firing, has to all work together to create the harmony of a great piece. It gives me real satisfaction to eat out of a handmade dish or grasp a shaving mug, that is an individual, with personality, not just another assembly line number. My wares are to share that joy with you!"

Polka Dot Bowl Small Yellow Hand Painted Kitchen Dinnerware "When we started Owl Creek Ceramics we were both working full time in education and John was traveling a lot. We didn’t have that much free time, but we made a goal to spend at least a few minutes every day on our business. If we couldn’t actually work in the clay, then just thinking about it would count. It turned out to be a powerful goal and now we’re so immersed in it, it’s more of a lifestyle than a business. Six years ago, we made a huge addition to our little studio and it’s our dream come true. It’s over 4,000 square feet! It’s right across the driveway from our house. We have a gallery area with shelves, a big beautiful check out /wrapping table that John made, and my giant decorating table that John also made and it’s on wheels. I look out onto one of our ponds and also see the rolling hills in the background. It’s a lovely view and it inspires both of us. We have open houses several times a year. It’s really more like a big get together where customers run into old buddies and meet new friends. We always have food and the studio looks its best. At Christmas, we bring in several trees and we have lots of poinsettias all over the place. I start decorating in the summer for Christmas and I love it. I am truely grateful for the gifts that God has given me to help provide for my family. For my wonderful husband who is my greatest fan and true love and for my children who are my inspiration.
I grew up in Sierra Madre, Ca. in the foothills of the San Gabriel mountains. I've had my hands in clay for the last 14 years. I've tried other mediums in art such as water color, drawing, intaglio etching, photography and wood block printing. I find that I can combine most all of these art processes when creating a piece in ceramics. I like to look at each piece and use it as a blank canvas to draw on.
Many years ago I first saw a dragonfly on a lake in Cable, Wisconsin and was fascinated with its flight and vivid colors. I began to draw other insects, the "dung" scarab beetle, and praying mantis. God created each beautiful and intricate insect and I feel compelled to draw them and tell their stories.
People say to me - you must have a great sense of humor! And I tell them - it's just the facts. It's just the facts! And yes, I know these stories are quite silly. And some may say - well, that was more than I really needed to know! and I just smile...
Although not every aspect of my pieces are made by me I strive to make my process of creation as "green" as possible. I fire all of my work in an electric kiln that is supplemented by solar panels on our roof. In addition we travel to the various art shows we do in our diesel truck that runs on recycled vegetable oil..."
