New Look

My blog now has a new look. Background from ShabbyBlogs.com and the header is a photo I took of my best friend's kitchen curtain, manipulated in Picnik. I wanted something more subtle and subdued so that the focus goes directly to my beautiful finds. What do you think?

"Hi. My name is Lena and I live in Ukraine.
I make my designs using wool and felt dry and wet techniques. My art which I absolutely love gives me so much freedom where my imagination never stops. Wool is a very plastic material which makes it possible to create anything imaginable. Things turn out warm, cozy and bewitching. Thanks for stopping by at my "sincere bagatelle " where you can enjoy my handmade items filled with positive energy."

River City Soundtrack- Our New Intelligence

modern fiber lab

Natural dark color wool felt wall sculpture with walnut wood
"I see fiber as a basic common thread throughout the organic world.
I am an artist with a total obsession with fiber. I have a degree in sculpture and printmaking and I have been working with fiber as a new medium for the past seven years for installation work, utilitarian objects and design.
I dye, spin, felt, weave and knit different fibers that I acquire from all over the world. I work closely with shepherds and small farms to obtain my different fibers. I use a large range of available wools, mohair and other fibers from different animals including angora goat, Cotswold, Blueface Leicester, Border Leicester, Merino, Lincoln Longwool, and other exotic fibers when they are available. It is important to me that my fiber come from animals that are loved and well cared for. I also use silk waste that would otherwise be thrown away. My mission and goal is to use sustainable supplies and to nurture and support other small businesses.
I work with my handspun fibers and I minimally process them. I enjoy creating the handmade yarn for other artists to use as well.
I have discovered a wonderful community of people and artists along the way that believe in the idea of living simply and responsibly in harmony with the natural world. I hope my objects are a reflection of that and that they will bring happiness and comfort to those who enjoy them as only fiber can."

Notepad Portfolio 9
"I'm Lolita and I love to sew.
As a working artist living in beautiful North Florida, inspiration abounds here in the deep, saturated colors that ignite under the bright Florida sunshine. I love texture, bold pattern, whimsy, geometrics, collage and the elements of surprise and discovery. I find questions more intriguing than answers.
I learned how to use a sewing machine as a young teenager and since then have sewn countless articles of clothing, hats, shoes, bags, accessories, quilts, placemats, potholders, aprons, napkins, pillows, curtains...well, you get the idea. Perhaps when I've made everything there is to make out of fabric, I will sleep a deep sleep under my quilt.
My favorite quote from poet Rumi - 'Sell your cleverness and buy bewilderment'"

lune designs

South of the Border--Ceramic Pendant in Avacado, Goldenrod and Chili Pepper Red with Copper and Leather
"Welcome to Lune! My name is Keirsten. I am a self-taught jewelry designer living in northwest Montana. I am also a legal secretary, but that doesn't sound nearly as cool.
I spent a year making truly atrocious jewelry for myself to wear, haphazardly cobbled together from the meager supplies available in my tiny town. Nevertheless, I decided I had talent, and decided to spend another year acquiring some actual skill.
At the end of that year there was too much jewelry lying around to wear or give away, so I pondered a more clever (and fiscally responsible) way to get rid of it. And Lune was born!
The world is my studio. I make jewelry in my living room. In my kitchen. In my bedroom. In the other bedroom. On the porch. At work. At the park. On a boat. At the beach. At the campground. And even in my car (but not while driving). Some of my best work was done in the driver's seat of a Toyota Yaris.
I've always had strong creative urges, but I can't paint, draw, sculpt, sew, compose music, dance, or play an instrument so it was a little frustrating. I am a damn fine actress, but I just didn't have the contacts to make it to the big time so I studied French instead.
Imagine my relief when I discovered I could make jewelry. Or at least I make stuff that looks like jewelry. I think it's good. I hope it's good. It looks OK to me. I hope I'm not the only one that likes it. (If I'm not, don't tell me, OK? I don't have any other creative options)."

For those who love tulips

For those who love tulips by Bâ„®n
For those who love tulips, a photo by B℮n on Flickr.

The Tulip was originally a wild flower, growing in Central Asia. It was first cultivated by the Turks as early as 1000 AD, The flower was introduced in Western Europe and the Netherlands in the 17th century by Carolus Clusius, a famous biologist from Vienna. In the 1590s he became the director of the Hortus Botanicus, the oldest botanical garden of Europe, in Leiden. He was hired by the University of Leiden to research medicinal plants and, while doing so, he received some bulbs from his friend, Ogier de Busbecq, the Ambassador to Constantinople (presently Istanbul). He had seen the beautiful flower called the tulip, after the Turkish word for turban, growing in the palace gardens and sent a few to Clusius for his garden in Leiden. He planted them and this was the beginning of the amazing bulb fields we see today.

Photo of tulips taken on the island Texel - The Netherlands. Although photo was taken in the spring this image gives me that summer feeling ;-)

Koruru Resin Cuff in Red
"I draw my inspiration from things of the past, including my Maori/Scottish heritage and bringing those aspects together. Different cultures, different eras, different fashions and different materials. I love the way design used to be done with care and attention to detail. Things were made to be special and treasured and that's what I attempt to bring to all of my own designs."

spirocreations

Soft Handmade Leather Lace up Ballet Moccasins Made to Order in 6 Different Color Choices
"We are a husband and wife team who are crazy about creating with our hands and exploring hand craft traditions of old. I (Barb) work with leather. All our creations are handmade with love and care. All of my leather pieces and footwear are created 90% by hand without the use of machines...I only employ a sewing machine for basic assembly as I value the quality of hand focused finishing. Isaac (the husband) works with wood, stone and metal. Attempting to create almost entirely by hand has given us both deep respect for artisans of the past, and has led us to explore further the history of craft on a whole. A lot of our inspiration is taken from peoples who live closely to the earth, who respect its processes and are intimately tied to its cycles. We both enjoy the process of creating each item from start to finish with love and care. We try to use all natural materials, with the exception of recycled antique buttons or trinkets which we salvage and rework.
Spiro, is a Latin word (pronounced 'spearo')and means: to live, to breathe or to be inspired. We felt this idea summed up our creative process, as creativity brings life and is as important to our well being as breathing. We feel that through the process of creating we are connected to something greater than ourselves and find that this process also reconnects us to the earth, its inhabitants, its past, present and future.
We hope that our creations can inspire you to reconnect to your own unique creativity. You are an inspiration and have much to give to the world around you! Thank you for taking time for our passion!"

Sundries And Plunder

Adult Size Rabbit Mask
"We are two sisters from Oregon, one living in Portland, and the other in Bend. Between being raised by creative parents, and the need to stay entertained during the Pacific Northwest's long rainy season, it was probably inevitable that we would become two insatiable crafters.
Being that we are two women who are constantly trying to find new ways to keep our fingers busy, our crafts change and grow frequently. And, since the older of us was born with the shopping gene, don't be surprised if the occasional vintage treasure turns up after one of her thrift shop expeditions."
